Washington, D.C., tops the American College of Sports Medicine’s new list of America’s fittest cities. The list is based on personal factors — including the percentage of residents who smoke, are obese, get regular physical activity, eat at least five servings of fruit and vegetables per day, and have conditions such as diabetes and heart disease — and on local resources, such as parks, farmers’ markets, number of primary health care providers, and crime rates. Data came from sources including the CDC, U.S. Census Bureau, U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the nonprofit Trust for the Public Land. Here are the TOP 10 cites:
- Washington, D.C.
- Minneapolis-St. Paul
- Denver
- Boston
- San Francisco
- Seattle
- Portland
- San Diego
- Austin, Texas
- Virginia Beach, Va.
If you come to Canada you need to visit Vancouver, BC. We are so lucky with the all the natural fitness activities you can do all year round. Vancouver is one of the few cities in all of Canada that the climate allows for year round play. We can ski in the morning, golf in the afternoon and be kayaking at night. Now where else can you do that? Sorry, just had to plug this beautiful city the GGS girls live in ! The full list of American’s fittest cities are on WebMD.
About the Author: I am a gym junkie but always find myself looking for new ways to stay active. You can usually find me hanging with my 2 kids at the soccer field, ice rink, dance studio or swimming pool. Other than that, I am usually at my computer, watching ellen, or making some fab dish for my hubby.

I live in Hillsboro, OR, that’s right near Portland, and I’m so happy to see it number 7!
