Make a Skinny Call: i-applications for getting skinny and staying that way

imagesI love Twitter.  I learn so much from it.  I just ask a question and BOOM – quick, wonderful responses come flying back.  Recently we reviewed Sensei  (as low as $15 per month) which is is a weight loss program that includes a virtual dietitian with menu planning, grocery lists, recipes, workout scheduling and support.  I was curious which other iPhone apps are popular so I asked my Twitter friends which  ones they like to slim down and stay trim so they can fit into their skinny jeans.

The six below were by far the most popular weight loss resources.  Here’s a quick overview of each:

LOSE it! (free)

You enter your daily food intake and exercise information and LOSE it! will reveal the date you will reach your goal weight

Dietician ($9.99)

A food diary lets you track your calorie intake and create meal plans, recipes and grocery lists

Nutrition Menu Calorie Counter ($2.99)

This provides information for 79,000 food items at 377 US and Canada restuarants

iSteps ($2.99)

This actually turns your phone into a pedometer, just plug in your weight and height and tuck it in your pocket and it will calculate the distance you cover in a day

Fitness Builder($19.99)

Choose from a list of more than 400 different workouts that come complete with video

Gym Buddy (free)

Gym Buddy is a completely customizable workout journal. You can not only keep track of every workout that you do(both reps and weight) but you can also setup your own individual workout schedules.

What i-applications are you using on your iPhone for weight loss?  Did we miss any?

About the Author: I am a gym junkie but always find myself looking for new ways to stay active. I’ve always been fascinated about the different ways people have created to achieve one goal, the goal of weight loss. For me, it all starts with the food you eat. I filled out this survey to help out in weight loss program research — about the dieting and nutrition habits of people. For the love of weight loss, check this survey out! http://bit.ly/4TttX.

I really think I might buy the nutrition menu calorie counter. For $3, it totally sounds like it would be worth it.

This is why I want an ipod touch (or iphone) so badly: to keep track of what i eat and how much i work out to help me lose weight (and hve music to work out to!)

I don’t have an iPhone, but I have used sparkpeople.com and dailyburn.com to track my diet and fitness.

I’ve been using LoseIt since January and have lost 33 pounds. I also downloaded a bunch of Nutrition apps so I can check calories, etc. I’ve found that if I keep track of calories & exercise, I lose. Otherwise, it’s too easy to ‘forget’ what I eat!

Twitter is like the best thing ever for new information-you just have to have great followers! You guys have so many followers that you must get some many more answers!

I love my iphone and use LOSE it all the time-beats having to wait until you get home to log in your info on places such as the daily plate…keep up the great posts!

I love twitter too because I find things on it I would of never found. My boyfriend has an iphone, he is a nutrition grad school major and was telling me about all the applications iphones have to help you stay on track. One of the coolest ones I think is the iStep.. the pedometer is so useful and 2.99 is a steal for one you can get a store. I have the Google phone and the only similar apps we have is the pedo and a calorie counter.

ALSO though, there are applications that are the oposite.. such as.. Where can I find the nearest pizza hut?? We definately got a good laugh from that one!!

Oohhh I’ve been snooty about the iPhone but when I heard about all the apps I must admit I was a little jealous! Incredible how an app can turn it into a pedometer! Slighlty off-topic, but did you see the “shake-the-baby” app? Of course it was quickly removed for bad taste, which was kind of funny. There are some weird apps out there! Even one for guys so they can keep track of their gf’s cycle, to know when to buy flowers, haha.
