Valerie Bertinelli has come a long way, and looks FANTASTIC!

valAs I sit here flicking through the channels, trying to find something good on T.V.,  I keep coming across Valerie Bertinelli in the commercial for Jenny Craig.  I use to watch her on One Day At A Time; I thought she was so awesome then and I still do.  It’s great seeing her in the commercials with her bikini and how wonderful and happy she looks at the age of 49!

A few years ago she tipped the scale at 172 lbs.  She worked hard and in 9 months with Jenny Craig she brought her weight down to 132 lbs.  She exercised on her own for a year primarily by walking 10,000 steps a day.  She then hired a personal trainer and before long she was running up to five times a week.

The result?  FANTASTIC!  Valerie says she is now in the best shape of her life.  “I never, ever, ever had deltoids!” she tells People magazine and adds “Oh my God, when I’m doing exercises and I see them pop out, I’m like, yes!”

Nevertheless, I still ask: Why is it so difficult?  I know the rules: calories in, calories out; don’t eat past 7pm, or at least 2-3 hours before bed.  I know that we have to exercise to keep our fat away and our muscles fit and firm.  And that we need to eat in moderation.  So why is it still hard to lose that last 10 pounds!!  When I see Valerie, I think, well she did it, but then she is also on T.V. – an excellent incentive to get the weight off and keep it off. Maybe that is the key; we each need a personal incentive to keep us on track and help us reach our fitness goal…

What is your incentive to lose your last 10 pounds?

Obesity is an ongoing problem all over the world. I see so many people who are overweight struggling with the same old same old. Forever dieting, counting calories/kilojoules and wondering when they get to eat next. I am constantly amazed at the cost of some of these programs. The average person cannot afford these diets and not only that but they are so restrictive and not always suitable or sustainable. Celebrities who take on these diets can afford them and they are also given a personal coach to go with it so they don’t embarrass the company and to ensure they stick to it and not cheat. There is also financial gain for the celebrity as well.
Well, I wrote the book Marilyn’s Plan. It is inexpensive, sustainable, easy and simple. A unique way to lose weight without starving. Anyone can afford it. The whole family can be on the Plan. It is not a diet but it works. In fact I had my family on it and they didn’t realise it until they began losing weight. It was wonderful. I feel and look fabulous too.
