Mompreneurs Looking for PR Ideas Have Come to the Right Place

Are you a brilliant mompreneur or mom business owner who is hungry for press? If so, are you taking the steps necessary to get your company some well-deserved ink?

Here are five “strength training” tips to getting started with your DIY-PR efforts:

1. Read the magazines and blogs you want to be featured in. It’ll be much easier to pitch magazines and blogs you’ve taken the time to get to know – and you’ll probably have better success too! Spamming reporters or bloggers is a no-no – don’t do it!

2. Reach out to your local newspapers and TV stations. Everyone loves to hear about a local girl whose products are changing the world. Shouldn’t that go-to girl be you?

3. Channel your inner publicist. You can do your own PR with a little coaching (from me!) and the right tools (like a good media list). I offer a ton of no- or low-cost tools on my website to help pump up your PR strength.

4. Look for easy opportunities. Monitor magazine’s editorial calendars (a list of a magazine’s planned coverage for the year) and watch for opportunities to be a source for a reporter’s upcoming story on Help-a-Reporter-Out too! These are opportunities for you to show the world that you’re an expert on whatever it is you’re an expert on!

5. Spread the word. Tell everyone you know about your great product. You never know whose uncle’s friend’s cousin might know a reporter or blogger that she could connect you with. So get talking (and bragging!).
