Should I train to run a marathon to lose weight?~Sian’s weekly Weigh In

It’s the same problem so many of us have, losing the last 10-15 lbs. I think my body has gotten very comfortable at my current weight. The last time I weighed under the 140′s was about 10 years ago. Ironically, it was right after I had my first child. I was so darn determined to lose the 65 lbs of baby weight, I did and then some, weighing in at 128 lbs. But pregnancy number two took over and I never did get back to that weight again. Perhaps it was too light or at least that is what I tell myself.
So I have decided to start Weight Watchers Momentum Plan. I have been on a WW program before, calculating my meals by point value and having a target point value per day. I really like the idea that you have to be accountable for everything that goes into your mouth. I won’t bore you with what I eat everyday but if I find a great WW recipe I will be sure to share.
To add to my weight dilemma…
I am in a bit of a workout funk. The gym has been uninspiring since they took out my beloved classes to add a circuit training (senior) circle. So here is my question, should I continue to train in the gym to help loose the weight or do I need a bigger goal, such as running a half marathon? Will I keep at it if I join a running group and inspire my friends to do this together?
I want to start off right and be motivated to achieve my weight loss goal! I will faithfully return with a weekly update, sharing the hi’s and low’s of my new weight loss journey. Come on Girls we can do this together! Please share your advice and/or journey with me !

About the Author: I am a gym junkie but always find myself looking for new ways to stay active. You can usually find me hanging with my 2 kids at the soccer field, ice rink, dance studio or swimming pool. Other than that, I am usually at my computer, watching ellen, or making some fab dish for my hubby.

I think a Marathon is a great goal, but how about a little smaller first? My friends at Nutrisystem that started running during their weight loss journey love it and now run Half Marathons!
I think running is an excellent way to lose weight along with a great plan like WW.
Whatever you decide to do it will work!
This could have been me writing this post!
I gained 40 pounds with each of my two pregnancies (the second one, a BIT more than 40, if we want to be accurate). I managed to come withing 6-7 pounds of my original weight before having my second kid, and now, after delivering 9 months ago, I’m glad to say that Weight Watchers Online has helped me trim me back to 2 pounds off my original weight!
It’s still a work-in-progress, and I’m making the mental shift change from a lose-weight mantra to a keep-healthy one. I’m looking into running a Half Marathon next year, my second one in 6 years. And although the idea of “weighing more” while training for a race goes against everything I have been focused on for the past four months, I’m searching for the healthier lifestyle, to find the athlete-within again.
My reason, though, for choosing a Half, having already done one (“why do another one?”) is to seek the accomplishment and thrill of victory once again. Losing weight is already challenging in itself, and I’m always up for a challenge. Think I can’t do it….done, it’s on my list!
So, do the Marathon to find your athlete-within. To join thousands of others in celebrating the ability to move, for there are those who can’t. To feel the power in your moving legs as the wind picks you up and carries you up that hill. To feel the accomplishment in being healthy and not simply looking healthy.
See you at the finish line!
almost sounds like you too are the same! but great extra advice!
