Review and GIVEAWAY – Going Green with Genuine Health

Greens_plus_energy

I’ve been familiar with Genuine Health products for years.

And I’m a secret HUGE fan.  You’ll notice the new Genuine Health ad on our site.  Already fans of Genuine Health=GGS girls who are happy to promote the products we like, with or without an ad on our sidebar.  As my husband will attest (looking at our four children), I may be “easy”, but I can’t be bought, lol!  As always, you are going to get my honest opinion. Good, bad, or ugly.  They’ve sent me several products to review, and I’m going to give you the dirt on each one. (If you notice the ad is pulled, well, you’ll know I stepped my foot in it – and that’s okay, lol).

The backstory….

I first became familiar with Genuine Health *several* years ago when my father-in-law started taking Greens+.  My sisters-in-law and husband soon followed suit and bought some themselves. I took one look at the weird green powder they were mixing into their morning juice and promptly made fun of them.

Mercilessly.

Time passed.

One day, when no one was looking, I grabbed the jar and studied the ingredients.  Just as I suspected…healthy stuff. Greens, all mashed into a powder.  Ugh.

“Benefits of taking greens+ include:

-Increases energy and overall well-being

-Provides the highest Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity (ORAC)

-Increases and supports bone health

-Provide the antioxidant equivalent of 6 servings of organic fruits and vegetables

-Highest Potential Renal Acid Load (PRAL) – a measure of alkalinity”

I don’t get many greens in my diet.  Well, some, but definitely not enough.  Green isn’t a color that draws me as much as say, the deep rich color of chocolate. You know?

I watched surreptitiously as every morning my husband stirred it into juice and sometimes water.  One day, when he offered to let me try it, I did.

I took a tiny glass of it and swirled it around. It looked…not so appealing.  It tasted….well, let’s just say its not a chocolate donut.  It tasted…healthy.  I think my mouth may have puckered and I do think I screeched.

I was hooked.

To find out what’s in it I read the label and I also read up on the studies.

But even though I was hooked, I was also stuck because I had really, really, made fun of my husband for taking it (Why? Who knows? Sometime I just like to torture him. A girl needs her fun, lol).

So here it is, just for you, honey:  I was wrong. Yup,  I was wrong to make fun of you for taking greens+. I’m sorry. Well, mostly. ‘Cause it was really fun at the time… :-)

My husband took greens+ for years, but then started eating really healthily, did a cleanse and just pretty much stopped taking it after that. Not because he didn’t like it, but he was experimenting with all sorts of homemade healthy recipes. He even grew his own wheat grass, but that’s another story.  Also, the green stuff isn’t cheap.

Fast forward a few years…

Anyway, a few weeks ago I was killing time in the local drug mart and perusing the Greens+ rack.  I saw greens+ extra energy. Had enough time passed that I could buy it without having to admit I was wrong?  I decided to give it a shot after I studied the label and found out that it has all/most of the ingredients of the regular greens+, plus the potential to make me more energetic.  Hmn. I could definitely use more energy! (oh, this is before Genuine Health approached us about working with the Girls. I like to think of it as fate – I’m kind of romantic that way, lol.)

photoI bought it and hid it at the back of the fridge.  Just in case the hubby saw it.  Which he did. At which point he laughed. And laughed. And made fun of me.

Mercilessly.

Then he went out and bought the regular greens+.

So now our two jars are snuggled side by side in the fridge.

Anyway.  Even though it’s not one of the products they’ve sent to me, I’m reviewing Greens+ energy first, because it is what I’ve started with on my own.

My review of greens+ energy…

mixing_greens_plus_energyThe label tells you to work your way up to one full scoop per day mixed with water or juice and to take it on an empty stomach.  Of course when I started I completely disregarded the instruction and just jumped right in with one full scoop each day. My bad, but I experienced no issues doing it that way.

The first few days I felt no different…

But after a week I sure did. And after two weeks I was sure of it.

I definitely DO have more energy. I’m even waking up more bright-eyed than usual (if you know me, you know I’m not a morning person. And I’m still not getting up at 5 or anything like that but I’m snapping awake rather than being fuddled and grumpy).

Is it a magic energy mix?

I don’t think so. What I do think is that my diet is deficient in greens and my body is responding to the extra nutrients. It’s that simple, girls!

What about the other GGS Girls?

drinking_greens_plusA couple of days ago, I pulled out Steve’s greens + and my greens+energy when the other GGS girls were over.  I mixed some up, poured a big glass for me and a little bit for them.  The look on their faces when they tried it was hilarious. All scrunched up and puckered.  I remember feeling like that when I first tried it.

Me, I quite like the taste now now (I drink the natural cappuccino flavor).  My husband says its because my body is becoming more alkaline.  I thought he was spouting off until I read up on it myself here and in Gwyneth Paltrow’s buddy Dr. Joshi’s book.  Once again, my husband just might be right.  Who knew?

Now greens+ energy is my regular morning drink mixed with water, followed by another glass of water for good measure.  Then it goes downhill from there, but at least I’ve started off the day with greens.  Sometimes when I’m feeling healthy I make myself a homemade green monster smoothie too. Other days I grab an egg mcmuffin.

Old habits die hard.

But that’s why I like starting new habits.

Next Genuine Health product up for review: o3mega+ joy. Is it really going to make me more joyful? I’m skeptical but ready to take it on!

Hi Melanie, Sarah here. I’ve tried the greens+ and really like it. I did end up stopping taking it due to the cost. Your story is funny because my husband made fun of me! Then again, his version of a smoothie only has a little extra oomph added to it – wink wink!

    Thanks for sharing!
