Review: Reebok EASYTONE – Brilliant butt toning for lazy girls like me

I have a dirty little secret and I’m going to share it with you.

I’m lazy.

Yes, I am.

Lay-Z.

That’s why I run.

I run because I find it the most efficient way to exercise in the shortest amount of time.  I know I can get away with running for one hour twice a week and one longer run on the weekend. So basically I can stay in decent shape in four hours per week. (Yes, I often do put in more time working out, but that’s really the fault of this blog, lol, and not my true nature.)

And running burns mucho calories. For me, that’s loosely 600 calories burned per hour or 2400 per week.

Running is a simple, quick and efficient way to get in shape.

But not easy.

No, it’s definitely not easy.

However, I think I’ve got that covered now. The easy part, that is, because ever since I read this…

“…[they're the] perfect gift for the lazy girl who wants to tone while doing errands.”

…I knew Reebok’s EasyTones were for me.

Finally, a pair of shoes that will get me fit when I’m NOT running!  Yes, this is a pair of shoes I need – and like many of us women, I always need more shoes, period.

So what are these ‘bad girls’ all about?

Well, EasyTone is designed to help give definition to our legs and butt (Reebok: you had me at ‘legs’, you sold me on ‘butt’). Simply by walking, the ‘balance pods’ (pictured) under the shoes create a slight instability which forces our muscles to work a little harder, toning us as we go.

Specifically, toning the butt 28% more and the calves and hamstrings 11% more! (According to the Reebok website.)

I received my pair over Christmas and I put them to use right away. I had a LOT of butt toning to do after two weeks of fun parties, yummy food and lots and lots of wine.

First, I wore them around the house, not so much to break them in, but more to keep them beautiful and white.  My initial impression was that they are very comfortable and like walking on little balloons (the Reebok website compares them to walking on sand, but I found them easier than that).

I soon ventured out of the house and wore them as I went about my day.  At first I was a bit worried about going too far in them – I wasn’t sure if they were really suited to long distance walking.

But soon I forgot I had them on. Once I was out walking my dog and it was so nice outside that we just kept walking and when I got home and checked my Garmin watch I realized we’d gone 3 miles (5k) in them!  My feet weren’t sore at all – they felt really good.  But – joy! – my legs and butt(!) did feel that walk the next day and it must be due to the shoes because I can normally walk or run for a long time without feeling sore the next day.  This was a good sore, not a bad sore…I still did my regular lazy-girl run the next day and felt fine (wearing my running shoes, not the EasyTones).

My guess is that if you don’t run regularly or give your legs any other type of regular workout, you will feel the benefit of these runners even more.

Pros:

  • The perfect runners to wear when you’re NOT working out.
  • 28% more toning of your glutes and 11% more toning of your calves and hamstrings – I just can’t argue with that!
  • I like the look of them – they don’t stand out and shout “lazy girl” (I can do that myself)
  • I like the feel of them – they feel fun to wear and you do quickly forget about them

Cons:

  • What’s not to like?

I’d definitely recommend these, they don’t look odd or platform-y like some shoes do, they’re a ton of fun and you can’t argue with toning your butt by 28% more than usual. Unless you’re one of those tiny-butted women that I’m really jealous of – for you, you just might find your butt falls right off.

One other thing…Reebok will donate a minimum of $500,000 up to $750,000 to benefit the Avon Walk Around the World for Breast Cancer to combat breast cancer.  So if you pick up a pair you can feel good about more than your highly-toned butt.

Get your pink on!  :)

I had sprains and possibly a fracture. They rolled my ankle too. I bought 2 pairs and now I’m afraid to wear anymore. I exercise regularly for 30 years and have never had any problem. I love my other Reeboks though.

I purchased these shoes in Hong Kong.

After I wore them for a while, I found they roll your ankle around, which is not good.

My feet curve inwards when I wear them. This can’t be good for my feet.

    I would not reccommend these.

Thanks for doing a review on these types of shoes. I know that the manufactures (whether Reebok,Nike,or whoever) of course promise the benefits of these types of shoes. However, it is good to get the opinion of an actual customer and their unbiased opinion. I am actually temped now to try a pair. Thanks!

How much did you get paid to write this review? This shoe does absolutely nothing. They’re horrible and a sham.

Will these shoes be suitable for a job that requires to be on ur feet all day minus the back and foot pain.

Agh my calves! Bought these after reading your awesome review, and I must say I can feel the burn. This is the evening after the first day, wore them for a nine hour shift of hardcore retail, including multiple trips up and down the stairs, and my feet dont hurt (first time ever on a 9hour) and my calves feel like I did the stair climbing machine! Yes! Thank you thank you thank you! Great review!

they have a running version…do you think they would be suitable for running? i’m looking to replace my current runners and was considering these.

  11. lynn says:

I am planning on doing a 26 mile walk, will they be suitable for this?

    • Melissa says:

Hi Lynn! Crazy Legs is a runner and after walking 3 miles in them could feel the impact the next day. I imagine you would need to do some serious training in the shoes to make sure there are no surprises during your walk and that you are not completely immobile the day after. Good luck!

    • Sian says:

Yes, but I would not do 26 miles the first time you wear them. Most of these toning shoes has a ‘break’ in period. BUT, once you get used to them I think they would be great for long walks!

  12. Claudia says:

thanks for the great review !

  13. Gwen says:

Much cuter than he skechers! Not so clunky looking

  14. Sound pretty cool! Would they fit my wide/flat/bunion feet though??? :-)

Thanks so much for this review! As a runner who trys to sign up for races so that I WILL run, this is a great alternative for off days. I would like to encompass other trends into my routine without heading to the gym on another piece of equipment. I have trouble with my feet (particularly the ball)and it’s nice to know how comfortable you found these shoes to be. With warmer weather on the way it will be nice to use these for long walks with the dog. Thanks again!
