Review: Ryza Milk

I make a smoothie everyday for at least one of my (mini) meals or snacks.  I usually always use cow’s milk so I was thrilled to be able to try out brown rice milk by Ryza.  Also sent to us was a very cool  Cuisinart blender.  Sweet!  We desperately needed a new blender.  Our old one was screaming for mercy when we added ice and/ or frozen fruit to our smoothies.  So here is my usual smoothie recipe with a couple of variations.  One being the milk and the other being the jam.  Because so much great fruit is in season (jump for joy) I used all fresh fruit!

Ingredients

  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1/4 cup fresh or frozen blueberries
  • 3/4 cup fresh or frozen peach slices
  • 1/8 cup low fat Greek yogurt
  • scoop of vanilla protein powder
  • 2 tablespoons home-made blackberry jam
  • 1/8 cup original Ryza rice milk

Directions

  1. In a blender, combine banana, frozen blueberries, frozen peach slices, yogurt, protein powder and jam. Blend until smooth. add rice milk and blend to desired consistency. Pour into glasses and serve.  So thick, creamy with a slight taste of sweetness.  Yumm-O!

Ryza has  revamped  it’s website.  Take a look at the delicious recipes (your taste buds will thank you!), download coupons or learn more about the goodness of whole grains. A wealth of interesting info is at your fingertips – so check it out!

If you’re unfamiliar with Ryza, here’s a quick overview (for additional facts, please see their very coolwebsite.)

  1. Unlike other brands, Ryza uses only whole grain brown rice which is not milled or polished – this means the natural vitamins and minerals are not stripped away
  2. One cup contains a full serving (16 g) of whole grains
  3. It has less fat than other brands (bonus!)
  4. Using naturally occurring brown rice oil means no added oil like other brands
  5. No gluten, lactose, soy, cholesterol or trans-fat – and no added sugar!

What type of milk do you use?  The GGS was given a whole month supply of Ryza and up next will be a soup based recipe!

  2. Interesting! I use brown rice protein powder sometimes, but I never knew there was a brown rice milk.

I don’t use cows milk but I do use unsweetened coconut or almond milk from time to time.

  3. Never heard of this but sounds interesting. Will check out the stats. That smoothie sounds YUM.. that blender too! :-)
