Suggestion for Maple Omega Crunch Review and Recipe
A friend of mine, who just by chance is in the best shape of her life, has completed 6 Ironman Canada and eats like crazy, passed on this protein bar recipe to me. She eats every few hours and takes time each day to prepare her mini meals. Her lunch box when she goes to work is an actual cooler, there is so much food in there. She cracks me right up. My husband is addicted to these bars. He eats them all of the time. They are super tasty and well worth the effort. Way better than a Cliff bar or any protein bar for that matter.
- 6 cups oatmeal (may need more)
- 5 scoops vanilla protein powder or 1.5 cups (we have used chocolate and equally as good)
- 1/4 cup milled flax seed (we use roasted Maple Omega Crunch
- 1/2 cup coconut
- 1/2 cup natural peanut butter
- 1 cup water
- 1/4 cup SPLENDA Brown Sugar Blend (optional, husband likes better without)
Mix together with your hands. It is messy but worth it. Place the mixture on a cookie sheet with parchment paper or spray lightly with oil. Press down. Place in freezer for about one hour. Cut into bars (I get about 20 bars)and put into zip lock bags. Keep in the freezer until ready to eat.
Experiment with these bars, you could add any kind of nuts, dried fruit, dark chocolate. Whatever you like. But, please do try these. You will never buy another protein bar again. There is no hard to pronounce ingredients, no bizarre preservatives. For all the frugal GGS readers, the total costs of raw products works out to about $0.50-$0.60 per bar, so the bars cost less than a 1/5 of what you’d expect to pay in store.

About the Author: I am a gym junkie but always find myself looking for new ways to stay active. You can usually find me hanging with my 2 kids at the soccer field, ice rink, dance studio or swimming pool. Other than that, I am usually at my computer, watching ellen, or making some fab dish for my hubby.

These were yummy, but kind of crumbly and I want to be able to send them “on the go” and keep them whole. Should I just add more water? I’m thinking of adding a bit more protein powder to up the grams. Did you use whole oats or quick oats? I am thinking of using Peanut Butter & Co. All Natural flavored peanut butter next time.
I have made these so many times. My trick to make them less crumbly is to keep them in the freezer in zip lock bags, cut up ready to go. You can still eat them right out of the freezer. I use the porridge oats that take about 10 minutes to boil when making into a hot cereal. Yes, use only natural PB made with peanuts only. I really like adding either raisins or dried cranberries for added sweetness and skip the sugar. I hope this helps ; )
Thanks for the recipe, I made them today. They taste like a no bake cookie. Mine were snot crumbly…any suggestions?
These are absolutely amazing! I doubt I’ll ever buy another protein bar from the store again.
I know….aren’t they good! So glad you like them…..super simple to make to boot!
