How many times did you post a Facebook status to announce to everyone on your friends’ list your intention to start working out and lose weight as part of your New Year’s Resolution? How many times did you feel guilty and asked for tips on how to eat clean after you’ve had your fill of Thanksgiving dinner?

More often than not, we see so many people fueled with energy and vigor to undergo a fitness journey at the beginning of the year only to quit halfway.

And sadly when they find that they are back to square one the excitement to lose weight and lead a healthy lifestyle has already fizzled out.

And so instead of pressing on, they just go back to their old ways and make excuses for themselves why they aren’t doing what they were supposed to do.

Most of the time they wait for the year to end so they can start with a clean slate the following year. The thing is, it becomes a vicious cycle that will never yield results.I

Is This You?

If so then it’s clear to see that you have lost your motivation. It’s as simple as that.

Do you know that in order to be successful in anything, you need to keep your motivation high all the time? The reason why you skip a morning workout or order a thick slab of steak instead of a green salad (without the dressing) is because for some reason, you lost your motivation.

It’s safe to say that if you want to fulfill what you’ve promised on your Facebook status you need to find ways to keep yourself motivated so you can achieve the body or the lifestyle you’ve always wanted.

Here are some secrets to keep your motivation alive so you can shift your mood and gear your brain to workout and eat clean.

Partner with a Fitness Buddy

Did you know that partnering with a fitness buddy can help boost your motivation? Numerous researches have proved that having a workout partner can indeed keep you motivated.

Having someone ask you if you’ve done your morning jog or remind you to go to the gym will motivate you to do what you promised. A simple reminder is good enough to bring you back into a motivated mental state.

Not only that, a fitness buddy can make working out so much fun. You can run together, jog together, do burpees together and challenge each other. You can also fight gym boredom by talking about the latest trends while you’re both pounding on the treadmill.

Give Yourself a Reward

While it’s true that you can be motivated by having goals such as “improved health” or “lowered blood pressure”, experts have found reasons to believe that tangible rewards are much more effective than vague goals. The rewards vary depending on what you want.

It can be as simple as treating yourself with a creamy green tea smoothie at your favorite café or as extravagant as the latest iPhone once you’ve reached your desired weight.

Rewards such as these keeps you excited since you will have something to look forward to therefore making it an effective strategy to keep you motivated.

Announce Your Intentions

Remember that Facebook status you posted about your desire to lose weight? Don’t take it down.

Making your promises public will make you more likely to follow through with it especially if you announce it to your friends and your family.

Or you can even sign an actual contract stating that you will pay an X amount of dollars whenever you skip gym class or whenever you don’t show up for Zumba or Pilates.

The reluctance to shell out money over something you could do from the get-go can and will motivate you to stick to what you’ve promised.

So there you have it, these 3 simple strategies are all you need for you to survive the first year of your fitness journey.

Don’t allow your lack of motivation to ruin a potentially healthy and fit you. While you’ve got your gym shoes ready, your active wear pressed and your iPod loaded with your Workout Playlist do whatever you can to protect your motivation.

Final Take

Yes, you can slip from time to time and even order a bacon cheeseburger after a deadly workout when you should be on a low-carb, low fat diet and it’s okay. Don’t allow a slip-up to ruin the routine you’ve established.

Don’t get discouraged and always keep the positivity going no matter where you are in your fitness journey because if you give up now after you’ve gone a long way, you will surely and without doubt get discouraged to start all over again. So don’t make that happen.

The secret to success is to perpetually find ways to keep your motivation high.
