In the 11th century the Mahayana Buddhist school was founded by the Indian Buddhist Master Atisha and everyone who attends this welcoming meditation center follows his Tibetan Buddhist tradition of contemplation.
Vajradhava meditation is partially guided but also introduces breathing techniques which encourage stillness. The building has been beautifully converted and the main meditation room has hand-painted sculptures of divine figures which seem to have glowing auras.
The classes here are not just about developing a peaceful connection to oneself, they also encourage an opennes towards others. Twice a week, meditations on improving our relationships are held, making this a beautiful place to explore a calmer, more benign approach to life. There is also a Kadampa meditation center in Brooklyn.
Special guests at the center include local celebrities, like Edie Falco
