Skin Care Routines for Different Races

May 4, 2017Iradine Deano2148 views

Your skin care regimen might be different from that of someone else and that is perfectly okay considering that we all have different skin types to begin with. Ideally, the skin care routine you need to adapt has to be suitable to your skin type.

But are you aware that there are other factors that you need to consider aside from your skin type that will affect your skin care regimen? One of the most important things to consider when coming up with a skin care routine is your race.

How Can You Maintain Flawless Skin?

We’ll focus on the most common skin types: Fair, Medium and Dark.

 Fair Skin Type

Women who belong to this skin type have skin that looks like porcelain. Among the fair-skinned include Latinas, Asians and Caucasians.

Characteristics

When you have fair skin you are susceptible to sunburn, skin irritation and skin sensitivity and all of these can give your skin a reddish color. Fair skinned women often complain about their skin being too greasy and being too dry.

Skin Care Routine

Your basic skin care will still depend on your skin type. Star your skin care routine with a gentle cleanser based on your skin type (dry, oily or combination). Dermatologists usually recommend that you put on a moisturizer afterwards making sure that it contains enough sun protection especially when you are out all throughout the day.

Continuous reapplication of a sunblock with an SPF of 30 is also essential. To get the best results, find a sun lotion that contains loads of antioxidants. At night, it is also advised that you use a face cream that contains alpha-hydroxy acids or retinol to speed up cell regeneration.

Common Problems

Unfortunately, women with fair skin are more prone to signs of sun damage such as rough patches and wrinkles. But not to worry because you can always prevent it from happening by using acid peels or microdermabrasion kits both of which are sold in local supermarkets and are super easy to find.

Since redness is a common problem for women with fair skin using moisturizes can help deal with this especially those that contain chamomile. When using concealers and face powders choose those that have a subtle green tint to blot out the redness caused by sunlight.

Medium Skin Type

Most Middle Eastern, East Asian, Mediterranean and Latin ladies have a medium skin type. They may have an olive or deep tan color or a light beige skin color.

Characteristics

Women with a medium skin type are less susceptible to premature aging and sun damage but you still should not skip on your sunblock!

And since your skin is relatively thicker compared to fair skinned women it means you’re less likely to develop wrinkles as you age.

But you’ll have a bigger chance of developing breakouts due to your large oil glands and due to the fact that you have substantially more pores compared to women with fair skin.

Skin Care Routine

To avoid breakouts it is wise to use a salicylic acid wash. You should also avoid using powders. Since you have larger pores, debris can get stuck inside and clog your pores causing you to breakout.

To control the oil, instead of using powders we suggest you use blotting papers. It’s also a good idea to use a primer before you apply makeup or sunblock for a dewy look.

Common Problems

Women with medium skin have a lot more melanin compared to fair skinned women, which means when they do get blemishes, it takes a while for it to subside.

To help deal with dark spots we suggest you use a dark spot corrector cream or use a facial cream that has a lightening effect on the skin to fade dark spots caused by healed pimples.

One common problem for those with thicker skin is they have a lot of hair follicles. This means they may be dealing with facial hair.

It would be a wise idea to incorporate a hair removing cream to your usual skin care routine. If you are considering waxing, please be very careful as burns can trigger a possible hyper-pigmentation.

Dark Skin Type

Ladies who belong to this skin type has coffee brown complexion or an ebony colored complexion. Those who belong to this type include Afro-Caribbean, Southeast Asians and African Americans.

Characteristics

Being dark skinned has its perks! Women with a darker skin complexion are better protected against the sun’s harmful rays but this doesn’t mean you can skip on the sunblock!

Signs of aging are also not evident compared to fair skinned women. Dark skinned women are also prone to acne scars.

Skin Care Routine

Make it a part of your skin care routine to include a pore-cleansing salicylic acid wash. To get the most out of it, we recommend you use it twice a day. You should also moisturize regularly and when showering don’t use strong soaps.

Common Problems

Common problems for dark skinned women include flaking skin, hair ingrown and they are also more susceptible to skin cancer.

We suggest you combat flaking skin with a trusted moisturizer and when it comes to ingrown hair, avoid plucking but instead use exfoliating creams.

It is also important to protect yourself from the sun’s harmful UV rays by applying a generous amount of sunblock with a high SPF.

Final Take

Skin care problems can be avoided as long as you follow the right skin care routine suitable to your skin type and your race/ethnicity.

So before you go out and spend money over beauty products, make sure that it’s what your skin needs.
