If you have always been an avid weight loss aficionado then perhaps at one point you’ve heard about liquid diets. For many years thousands of women have turned to liquid diets as a quick fix to their weight issues.

This diet has gained popularity because of its promise to help you drop ten pounds in as little as two days.

Indeed, a liquid diet is a miracle diet but according to some, liquid diets are believed to be starvation diets this is according to Vanderbilt University’s health psychology department.

But it is important to know that not all liquids are the same. While there are unhealthy liquids such as sodas and iced teas, there are also those that are deemed healthy and they come in the form of smoothies. Smoothies are calorie-restricted meal alternatives that not only taste good they are also very filling.

Unhealthy Versus Healthy

Before smoothies were discovered people who were desperate to lose weight sought the old-fashioned liquid diet, which by the way is totally unhealthy.

But despite this, people were going crazy over it because it was marketed as a quick solution that can make you shed tons of weight in a very short period of time.

The strategy of that diet is to let you drink juice or any other liquid exclusively for a particular time frame and then once you’ve achieved your desired weight you can then go back to your old eating habit.

But MayoClinic.com seems to disagree with this saying a successful weight loss has to be based on a lifestyle change.

No matter how much you lose if you go back to choosing unhealthy foods then without doubt you will balloon back to your previous weight if not heavier.

We have a suggestion thought and yes it involves drinking a healthy smoothie. A smoothie diet plan consists of drinking one or two smoothies a day in addition to a healthy meal.

You can use a smoothie as your snack or you can replace two meals with it. But we do not recommend that you drink smoothies all day for a prolonged period of time unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor.

The following are some smoothie recipes you can try at home.

Banana Ginger Smoothie

This tasty smoothie not only makes you shed pounds it also has added benefits: It soothes heartburn, digestion, nausea and other stomach problems. This recipe is good for 2 servings.

Ingredients:

1 slice of banana

6 ounces of vanilla flavored yogurt

½ teaspoon of grated ginger

1 tablespoon of honey

1 banana, sliced

Directions: Super easy all you need to do is to add all the ingredients the banana, the honey, the ginger and the yogurt in a blender. Blend until smooth and transfer to a glass.

For every serving you get 157 calories, 1 gram of fat, 0.8 grams of saturated fat, 57 milligrams of sodium, 34 grams of carbohydrates, 28 grams of sugar, 5 grams of protein and 1.5 grams of fiber.

Orange Dream Creamsicle

This is the perfect drink after a tiring workout. This low calorie citrus smoothie is a healthy thirst quencher. This recipe is good for one serving only.

Ingredients:

4 ice cubes

¼ teaspoon vanilla extract

¼ fat free yogurt

2 tablespoons frozen orange concentrate

1 peeled orange

Directions: For this recipe all you need to do is to add all the ingredients, the orange, yogurt, vanilla, orange concentrate and ice cubes in place it in a blender.

Blend until smooth and then transfer to a chilled glass.

For one serving you get 160 calories, 60 milligrams sodium, 0.5 grams of saturated fat, 28 grams of sugar, 3 grams of fiber, 36 grams of carbohydrates, 3 grams of protein and 1 gram of fat.

Blueberry, Banana and Green Tea Smoothie

This smoothie is a chockfull of antioxidants owing to its ingredients. It’s tasty, sweet and healthy. In fact, it tastes so good you can use it as an alternative when you’re craving for anything sweet. This recipe will yield one serving.

Ingredients:

1 green tea bag

3 tablespoons water

½ medium sized banana

¾ cup light vanilla soymilk

1 ½ cups frozen blueberries

2 teaspoons honey

Directions: The first step is to microwave water until it’s steaming in a bowl. Add the tea bag and let it brew for three minutes. After three minutes remove the tea bag and stir in the honey until the honey dissolves.

Add the milk, banana and berries in a blender. Add the ice.

Lastly, add the tea to the mixture in the blender. Blend all the ingredients until smooth. There are some blenders that require more water for it to process the ingredients.

If you think yours need more water feel free to add more. Once smooth, transfer to a chilled glass and serve.

This serving will give you 269 calories, 3.5 grams of protein, 8 grams of fiber, 38.5 grams of sugar, 52 grams of sodium, 63.5 grams of carbohydrates, 0.2 grams of saturated fat and 2.5 grams of fat.

Whipping smoothies is not only easy; it’s also fast and convenient as long as you have all the ingredients with you.

Another thing we love about smoothies is that it hastens the weight loss process because it’s a low-calorie drink. After a drink you’ll feel sated, staving off hunger pangs and curbing your cravings.
